This is the Crystal Atrium of the Norwegian Pearl. My wife and I had taken a cruise on this ship, and it was one of the first places I noticed when scoping out the Pearl for potential architectural shots. I really didn’t want anyone in the image, so I got up at 3:30am to get down there at 4:00am, when no one but the cleaning folks would be around. I wanted to show the decor in the architecture and all of it’s grandiosity before the morning crowds arrived, and I think I was able to capture that in this image.
What I especially like about this image are how the colors and the overall saturation levels employed into the Atrium’s design literally bleed though. Also, I wanted an image that was as perfectly composed as I could get, so I used the bar top as a foundation for the camera even though I had a tripod with me. Had I used the tripod the bar would have been in the way of where I wanted the camera to be, and the necessities of the shot just dictated that the bar top become the tripod. It worked out in the end, which is all that matters.
